In Loving Memory of Jason

On March 24, 2025, the mountains lost one of their greatest souls. Jason "J" Remple, owner and lead guide of Stellar Heliskiing, passed away while guiding in the Clute Creek watershed near Kaslo, British Columbia. He was 53. The loss has deeply impacted our community and the broader heli-skiing family.
J was a true mountain man whose love for adventure was boundless. His life exemplified the power of nature and human resilience, inspiring everyone who had the privilege of skiing with him. He had an unmatched instinct for reading terrain and a generous heart for those he guided or, as he liked to say, "took to worship in the cathedral of pow." His laugh was as big as the slopes he skied.
His mountain career began at Selkirk Snowcat Skiing, where he worked for over two decades as Lead Guide and Operations Manager, building a reputation for excellence and safety. In 2014, he pursued his dream of running Stellar Heliskiing full-time and later purchased the Kaslo Hotel in 2022. His caring, gentle leadership style brought out the best in everyone who worked with him, creating a family-like atmosphere among his staff and clients.
J was instrumental in the Canadian Ski Guide Association from its beginning, known for his kind heart and guidance. Through strong mentorship and ability to foster self-confidence, he gave many younger guides their start in the industry. His dedication to safety and proper training became legendary in the heliskiing community.
Born in Kaslo, he remained deeply involved in his community - building mountain bike trails, helping save main street from a fire, assisting in Search and Rescue, making community donations, and always lending a helping hand. Above all, J was a devoted husband to Kerry and loving father to their three children, balancing his passion for the mountains with his dedication to family.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of all victims, including Jeff and Alex. His legacy will live on in every skier who follows his tracks through the powder he loved so dearly.
